Attention Seniors! Check out this Paid Journalism Internship with The Daily Catch

Based in Red Hook, The Catch is an independent, non-profit online paper that covers Red Hook and Rhinebeck news. In the fall of 2023, a one-year paid internship will be offered to a college senior, funded by the DJ McManus Family Foundation. They are looking for a curious and passionate journalist, a facile writer, and someone who loves to talk to people and write their stories. No prior journalism experience is necessary.

This internship will run for both fall and spring semesters, 2023-2024. The intern will work 15 hours a week at a wage of $15 per hour. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to move into a full-time reporting job at The Daily Catch in 2024-2025 right after graduation.

The intern will work virtually and enjoy many opportunities for in-person and Zoom collaboration with Editor Emily Sachar. She will read all of the stories and give feedback to bring the interns skills to a professional level.

The Catch is particularly excited about working with New Paltz seniors because so many are already familiar with the Hudson Valley. The Catch’s next reporter, Christian Evanko, is also a New Paltz graduate! You can search out his stories already on The Daily Catch website.

To learn more, email The Daily Catch Founder and Editor Emily Sachar, emily@thedailycatch.org.

To apply, send an email with a cover letter describing why this internship appeals to you, what sorts of stories you’d most like to cover, and any relevant coursework or work experience. Make sure to also show that you are familiar with The Daily Catch. In the subject line, write: SUNY New Paltz McManus YOUR NAME.

Email to: Emily Sachar, Editor-in-Chief, emily@thedailycatch.org

Application Deadline: May 1, 2023.

The Daily Catch will make their selection and inform all applicants by June 15, 2023.
