1-Credit Internship with Historic Huguenot Street – Starts Immediately

Historic Huguenot Street is looking for an intern to start immediately on this 1-credit internship. This internship is reserved for a student who has already completed an internship and does not need the internship seminar.

To ensure that the museum’s new virtual programming is accessible to a wide audience, Historic Huguenot Street needs help with video captioning, alt-text descriptions on social media and its website, and more. This would be a short-term project (40 to 50 hours) working remotely. This is an unpaid volunteer position, and interns must have their own access to a computer and WiFi. Work starts immediately and the department hopes to have it completed before the end of June.

Please email media@huguenotstreet.org with your qualifications. Must have prior knowledge in social-media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.

Remote Social Media Internship at Amberwood Press (Summer and Fall)

Amberwood Press is looking for interns for their summer and fall website and social media internship.

This internship is for the purpose of giving a student the opportunity to participate in growing and maintaining two very different websites. One, Literary Ladies Guide (https://www.literaryladiesguide.com) celebrates the lives and work of classic women authors (with a secondary subject of women journalists from the past). The Vegan Atlas (https://theveganatlas.com) is a site for vegan recipes and lifestyle.

This internship can work for a media and communications student or a journalism major. My past two interns and I really enjoyed our time together and the content they created has been viewed by tens of thousands of readers, and views continue to grow over time!

For the intern, the experience would include researching topics, creating posts, and helping to expand the social reach of the site. The intern will be involved as follows, and I can provide remote training for all skills:

– Learn the back end of running websites with the WordPress platform.
– Learn to create good SEO (Search Engine Optimization ) with the Yoast plug-in.
– Create 2 to 3 new posts per week on a mutually agreed upon topic (I have lots of web-friendly topic prompts on hand). Learn what goes into creating good content for the web.
– Create shareable graphics for Facebook and Pinterest using Canva or graphics program of their choice.
– Maintain and continue to build social media accounts, especially Facebook and Instagram. Keep records of metrics to see what’s working, and build on successes.

This has always been a remote internship, so this would work especially well now. How it would look is that we could meet more often at first over Facetime or Skype for training in the skills; in the past, I’d meet with the students more frequently at first, then once they were comfortable with WordPress, we would just meet once a week for 2 to 3 hours, with communication as needed in between.

This internship can be tailored to the students’ goals and objectives. If she or he wants to build a portfolio of online published work, that’s a given. If they want to focus more on creating content for social media, that works, too. If a student has a passion for food and wants to build a food photography portfolio, that’s another possibility.
