Communication & Social Media Intern Needed for UUP Faculty Union on Campus

The New Paltz Chapter of United University Professions (UUP, the faculty and staff union), is looking for one or two students to serve as interns. UUP interns typically come from disciplines such as Communication, Journalism, English, Political Science, and Sociology, and can earn 3 credits when registered through an academic department.

UUPUUP interns assist with maintaining social media feeds, updating and maintaining the Chapter website, and assisting with chapter meetings and rallies, all while learning first hand what a union is all about.

If you are interested in this opportunity, send your resume and statement of interest to Chapter President Beth E. Wilson at bwilson@uupmail.org.

Website and Social Media Internship With Nava Atlas

Nava Atlas is offering a website management and social media internship next semester. They are looking for a journalism, communications or media management major.

The internship will involve growing and maintaining two websites, creating content for their sites and managing their social media.

The websites include:

  • Literary Ladies Guide celebrates the lives and work of classic women authors (with a secondary subject of women journalists from the past).
  • The Vegan Atlas is a site featuring vegan recipes and lifestyle.

Internships activities would include (remote training can be provided):

  • Create 2 to 3 new posts per week on mutually agreed upon topics.
  • Learn what goes into creating good content for the web.
  • Learn some fine points on SEO (Search Engine Optimization), which helps posts become
evergreen and findable through Google and other search engines.
  • Create shareable graphics for Facebook and Pinterest using Canva or graphics program of your choice.
  • Maintain and continue to build social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram and
Pinterest. Develop strategies and keep records of metrics to see what’s working, and build on
    successes.

This has always been a partially remote internship, so this would work well now as a 100% remote internship.

Remote Social Media Internship at Amberwood Press (Summer and Fall)

Amberwood Press is looking for interns for their summer and fall website and social media internship.

This internship is for the purpose of giving a student the opportunity to participate in growing and maintaining two very different websites. One, Literary Ladies Guide (https://www.literaryladiesguide.com) celebrates the lives and work of classic women authors (with a secondary subject of women journalists from the past). The Vegan Atlas (https://theveganatlas.com) is a site for vegan recipes and lifestyle.

This internship can work for a media and communications student or a journalism major. My past two interns and I really enjoyed our time together and the content they created has been viewed by tens of thousands of readers, and views continue to grow over time!

For the intern, the experience would include researching topics, creating posts, and helping to expand the social reach of the site. The intern will be involved as follows, and I can provide remote training for all skills:

– Learn the back end of running websites with the WordPress platform.
– Learn to create good SEO (Search Engine Optimization ) with the Yoast plug-in.
– Create 2 to 3 new posts per week on a mutually agreed upon topic (I have lots of web-friendly topic prompts on hand). Learn what goes into creating good content for the web.
– Create shareable graphics for Facebook and Pinterest using Canva or graphics program of their choice.
– Maintain and continue to build social media accounts, especially Facebook and Instagram. Keep records of metrics to see what’s working, and build on successes.

This has always been a remote internship, so this would work especially well now. How it would look is that we could meet more often at first over Facetime or Skype for training in the skills; in the past, I’d meet with the students more frequently at first, then once they were comfortable with WordPress, we would just meet once a week for 2 to 3 hours, with communication as needed in between.

This internship can be tailored to the students’ goals and objectives. If she or he wants to build a portfolio of online published work, that’s a given. If they want to focus more on creating content for social media, that works, too. If a student has a passion for food and wants to build a food photography portfolio, that’s another possibility.
