Transfers: Register for Internship Eligibility Once You Have 30 New Paltz Credits

Transfer students, you should apply for internship eligibility once you have 30 New Paltz credits. Applying for internship eligibility means you must be approved to earn credits for any internship you complete, before you complete it. In order to do a required internship for credits you must be certified eligible. Although you only have to be certified one semester before, we recommend you get certified asap to get the application done with. Once you are eligible you remain eligible until you graduate (unless your GPA drops below a 2.5). Here are the minimum requirements to be certified as eligible to earn internship credits. Seniors- Apply for Internship Eligibility ASAP!

For any students planning on graduating in the Summer or Fall of 2024, make sure you apply for internship eligibility by Friday, Mar. 8. Introducing the MA in Strategic Communication: Seniors Can Take Graduate Courses!

The Department of Communication is excited to announce the launch of our new MA in Strategic Communication, beginning Spring 2024. This program caters to both traditional students and working professionals. We offer courses in two formats: asynchronous and hybrid.

  • Asynchronous classes are entirely online with no in-person meetings.

For the upcoming spring semester, we are introducing three courses:

Interested in Study Abroad? Read This To Apply SAB Courses to Communication Majors and Minors

A study abroad experience can be enriching and valuable — and even more so if you can make progress in your major while you’re there. If you are interested in or planning to study abroad, the first step is to meet with the SAB office. Be sure to meet with your Communication Studies major/minor advisor as far in advance as possible so you can plan out your progress to graduation.
Not every SAB course can be used for credit in your major.  If you think an SAB course might be suitable to substitute for a course in your major, it will need to be approved in advance by the Department.
The SAB equivalency course database is only a listing of specific courses that former students had successfully applied to their General Education and major plans. It is not all-inclusive. The Communication Studies Department has also kept track of our own internal approvals, but it’s also not all-inclusive. For evaluations of courses you’d like to apply to your Communication major or minor, students are advised to bring the syllabus, with assignments/assessments, and learning outcomes to Department Advisor Nancy Heiz, as well as Interim Chair Brian Obach, who has final approval of workflows, to ensure proper student learning outcomes and alignment with our courses.

When applying for internship eligibility it is important to upload your ENTIRE progress report as a PDF. Uploading screenshots of your progress report is NOT sufficient. Saving your progress report as a PDF is not only required for internship eligibility, but it is also handy to know for future reference. See the graphic below for the process Continue reading
