Message from the GE Task Force:
Dear Faculty Colleagues:
If you are working on any GE 5 Major Course Revisions this summer, then please review this request from the Curriculum Committee.
Request from the Curriculum Committee:As we reviewed GE 5 major-revision proposals during the spring semester, we identified characteristics that facilitate our review and expedite the approval process. Please consider the following when you prepare your revision proposals and the brief explanations and revised syllabi they require.
  • Include in your brief explanations specific references to GE 5-supporting course content. Such specifics provide context for the proposed revisions and help to “target” our review of the revised syllabus.
  •  In addition to including the GE 5 SLOs in your revised syllabus, consider highlighting content (discussion topics, assignments, etc.) that demonstrates how the course addresses the GE 5 SLOs.
  • Consider mapping course-specific SLOs to the GE 5 SLOs or providing a blended list of course-specific and GE 5 SLOs to illustrate the course’s appropriateness for the proposed GE 5 Knowledge & Skills area.
With proposers’ permission, we are pleased to provide examples of GE 5 major-revision proposals that demonstrate some of these characteristics. Other sample proposals will be added over time.
We anticipate that most faculty will submit their GE 5 major-revision proposals by September 1, which means a very busy fall for the Curriculum Committee! Proposals that reflect the advice above will help us efficiently evaluate how, and how well, the course satisfies the new GE 5 learning outcomes and will contribute significantly to a successful GE 5 launch in fall 2023. Thank you!
