Please join this 3rd meeting of the Futures Committee at the Faculty Center, CH 113. Even if you cannot take on an extra service commitment at the moment, stop by to lend your voice to the discussion about what this inter-disciplinary, collaborative group could be and do. President Christian and Provost Lyman attended for the first meeting (Nov 13, 2019) to show their support and listen to questions and concerns.
Description
The Futures Committee will be a standing committee of the College Faculty, composed of pre-tenure faculty and lecturers. The Futures Committee will meet monthly at the Faculty Development Center. Representatives of the college’s six academic divisions (Business, Education, Fine and Performing Arts, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Library, and Science and Engineering) will convene to share perspectives on the college and help shape a vision for its future. This committee will address questions and concerns in a reciprocal mentoring capacity. Areas of focus will include ways to improve the work life and retention of untenured faculty, strategies for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, pathways for building community, and our direction as an institution.
The Futures Committee will be a voice for untenured faculty and serve as a liaison with faculty governance and administration. To some extent, the role, mission, and structure of the committee will be up to those who participate. Meetings will be run by the leaders of the committee, and open to all untenured faculty. Membership on this committee will count as campus-wide service. Futures Committee leaders will have regular access to Faculty Governance representatives and to the President and Provost.
