Faculty/Staff Rosendale Exploration with New Faculty, Fri. August 23, 4:30 p.m.

Come welcome our new faculty and explore Rosendale’s Trestle Bridge, rail trail, volunteer-run Rosendale Theater and Redwing / Blackbird Theater! Then stop by the Rosendale Cafe for refreshments. Hosted by Mark McFadden (Career Resources), Jaclyn Cirello (Student Development), Catherine Herne (Physics) and Sarah Wyman (FDC / English).  Gravel paths to the cave and trestle bridge are wheelchair accessible.   All are welcome, including significant others, kids, and dogs on leashes. 12 minutes by car from New Paltz; 45 minutes by bike north on the rail trail.

** Unfortunately, we just learned that the Widow Jane Mine is closed for repairs – just today! – so we will have to go straight to the Binnewater Parking Lot for our walk/roll/hike.

[Cancelled section: Widow Jane Mine/Snyder Estate, 668 NY route 213 (4:50 p.m.)] Rosendale Trestle Bridge and Rail Trail (5:30 p.m.), Rosendale Cafe (6:30 p.m.)

You can make it to Palaia Winery by 7:30 p.m. to hear Raj Pandya’s band perform (1 hour drive) or hang around to see The Last Black Man in San Francisco at the Rosendale Theatre at 7:15 p.m.

Directions to Widow Jane Mine/Snyder Estate or Binnewater parking for trestle bridge/rail trail: From SUNY New Paltz: Take Main Street/299 west, downhill towards the Gunks, and turn right onto 32 North towards Kingston. Travel about 10 minutes through Tilson and into Rosendale. You will pass the community pool on the left and cross a light blue bridge. Take an immediate left, and left again at Stewart’s onto Main Street/213. Blink your way through town, travel under the trestle bridge, and take your first right onto Binnewater for the rail trail entry. The parking lot will be ¼ mile up on your left, with lime kilns and an old quarry.  Or continue on 213 1/4 mile and turn right into Snyder Estate to visit the Widow Jane Mine (up a path to the left/west).

**

For a more delightful drive, cross the Carmen bridge in New Paltz (near the Gilded Otter), and take first right towards Mohonk Mt. House, but stay right on Springtown Road about 8 minutes into Rosendale. As the road ends, turn right and continue downhill by St. Peter’s brick church. Turn left on Keator, cross Rondout Creek, left on 213/Main Street, pass under Trestle Bridge, and take a left for the Widow Jane mine or an immediate right on Binnewater for the rail trail / trestle bridge. Parking lot is about ¼ mile on your left.
