Giordana Grossi To Be Next Chair of the Department of Psychology

Giordana GrossiDr. Giordana Grossi, Professor of Psychology, has been selected as the next chair of the SUNY New Paltz Department of Psychology. She will take over this summer from the outgoing chair, Dr. Jonathan Raskin, who is taking on the role of Interim Associate Provost of Academic Advising.

Dr. Grossi joined the New Paltz faculty in 2001. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pavia (Italy) and her B.Afrom the University of Padova (Italy). Dr. Grossi is a cognitive neuroscientist who studies language. Her empirical work explores aspects of automaticity and expertise in visual word recognition in both monolinguals and bilinguals, and employs both behavioral and electrophysiological (Event-Related Potentials) measures. She also studies sex/gender differences research, in particular the methodological and epistemological problems that characterize such research. She is a member of the Neurogenderings network and works with colleagues from different backgrounds on issues of sex/gender and neuroscience.

Dr. Grossi has extensive administrative experience, having previously served as program director for the M.S. Psychology graduate program and as chair of the Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion Committee.
