Reflections

You will complete two reflections during this course. Remember, this course is labeled writing intensive. Therefore, I expect both of your reflections to be well planned, thoughtful, and extremely well written.

Research Reflection:
In a 2-3 page written essay, review and reflect on the key points of one of the five research articles provided. In the piece, be sure to do the following:

  • Summarize and synthesize the main point(s) of the article
  • Consider the classroom application(s) of the ideas shared by the author (how might the ideas shared by the author be effectively applied to a classroom setting?)
  • Explain questions and concerns that remain

Some things to consider:

  • You may use headings to organize your thoughts if appropriate
  • Write your reflection in a narrative style, and avoid choppy transitions between paragraphs and/or sections
  • Use appropriate APA-style formatting
  • Your research reflection should be personal and be written in first person. You are summarizing the reading, but you are also sharing your personal thoughts on the topic

Final Reflection:
Use this link to submit a final reflection on your work in the course. In your reflection, consider your work this semester. The topic for this is open, as is the length. You may choose to focus on class activities or readings, fieldwork, or a combination of both. I am most curious to understand what your experience was like in this class, and how you feel about literacy instruction as you continue on to the next step in your teacher candidacy. Your submission should be candid, honest, and written in the first person.

The following rubric will be used to score both written reflections:
