Duties SUNY New Paltz is seeking a full-time, 3-year renewable Lecturer with a specialty in either School Counseling and/or Mental Health Counseling to join its Counselor Education Graduate Program (housed within the Psychology Department). This position will start August 2019. The individual will serve as our Practicum and Internship Coordinator, for both the School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling programs, as well as teach 3 graduate level courses per semesters. Specific requirements for this position include:
• Commitment to training counseling students.
• Teaching courses in School Counseling and/or Mental Health Counseling (primarily at the graduate level), such as Ethics & Professional Identity, Counseling Skills, Practicum, Internship, Psychopathology, and Assessment.
• Coordinating practicum and internship placements for both School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling students.
Qualifications Required:
o Masters degree in counselor education or related field, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build successful professional and mentoring relationships.
Preferred:
o Doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, OR doctoral degree in related field and have been employed as full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
o Clinical training and/or experience as a School Counselor and/or Mental Health Counselor.
o Certified or eligible for certification as a School Counselor and/or licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in New York State.
o Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
