Evan Atlas, evanatlas.com, seeks an intern for Summer or Fall 2020. The purpose of this internship is to immerse the student in the early development of a political campaign.
At this stage, the intern would assist Atlas as a potential candidate for public office in New York State by performing some or all of the following tasks:
- Using the policy page on the campaign website, the intern will perform research on precedent in the form of relevant laws, bills, white papers, academic publications, or political figures who align themselves with these policies
- Research new topics, collect sources, and provide concise summaries
- Develop spreadsheets to organize data on people, political organizations, independent media outlets, Political Action Committees, labor unions, and more
- Use research, intuition, and creativity to develop rhetorical and metaphorical framing for policy issues
- Create charts or other graphic representations of information that effectively convey aspects of campaign platform
- Write templates for future communications such as emails, texts, social media posts, and different forms of canvassing
This would be a remote internship, and most of the communication between Atlas and the student would happen over email, text, or short phone meetings.
Atlas will provide the student with a detailed roadmap of the campaign goals and priorities. The student can rely on Altas’ guidance in this process and will always have clearly defined objectives.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong foundational skills in research and communication, who has knowledge of politics and current events, and can research complex topics through technical/academic papers. A student with software skills who can create spreadsheets, charts, and creative graphics would also find meaningful ways to participate in this internship. As would a creative, empathetic thinker whose strengths are understanding people and finding out what would connect them personally to this campaign.
The intern will have the opportunity to be trained one-on-one in order to deepen their understanding of the campaign’s underpinnings as well as politics in general. One exciting example is the emerging technologies that are being integrated into the campaign. The student will have the opportunity to become more familiar with topics that will profoundly affect the world around them in the upcoming years.
