This spring, the DMJ Department is proud to offer two Ottaway grant funded courses.
DMJ470 The Ottaway Seminar: “Writing Globalized Labor” taught by E. Tammy Kim
This class is for students in their third or final year. Kim will participate in a Q&A and also deliver a public address (virtually), as previous Ottaway professors have. This is an honors-designated course. Kim is an incredible journalist and we are very lucky to have her as our 2021 Ottaway professor.
E. Tammy Kim is a freelance magazine reporter, a contributing opinion writer at The New York Times, and a co-host of the Time to Say Goodbye podcast. She previously worked as a national features writer for Al Jazeera America and was on the editorial staff of The New Yorker. In 2016, she co-published Punk Ethnography, a book about contemporary world music, and has written on topics ranging from housing and labor to Korean literature and politics for outlets including The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, Columbia Journalism Review, and The Nation. Kim’s first career was as a legal-services attorney, handling employment, immigration and health-care cases in New York. She has also taught undergraduate courses at the Cooper Union, Yale University, the City University of New York and the University of Montana School of Journalism.
