Scholarships are available for qualified students.
Student reporters will cover live press conferences, interview state senators and Assembly members, report on election news, watch oral arguments in the state Court of Appeals, report on the governor’s budget, attend rallies and protests, profile candidates, write about new laws, and much more.
In addition to covering the State Legislature, the Governor’s Office, and the State courts, Gazette interns are also needed to work on the newspaper’s new podcast, produce video news pieces, manage social media accounts and assist with the Hudson Valley Media Project – a collaborative project aimed at building relationships and sharing content with media and community partners across the Hudson Valley.
Interested interns may apply for the positions of Assistant Editor, Website Editor, Engagement Editor, Twitter Editor, Facebook Editor, Instagram Editor, Podcast Producer, Video Editor and Producer, and Photo Editor.
Prior knowledge of state government and politics is not required. This is a great opportunity to learn about professional news gathering and reporting, practice skills learned in the classroom, learn editing and news publishing, and learn more about social media strategies, marketing and media management, and issue advocacy. Interns will work alongside journalists from news outlets such as The New York Times, The Associated Press, Politico, WAMC, The New York Post, Newsday, the Albany Times Union, and regional newspapers from across New York.
