The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle Wordle

WORDLE

I visualized the Sherlock adventure of the Blue Carbuncle using Wordle. By looking at the word cloud that i created, i first notices that there were a lot of nouns, although this is obviously what’s expected when dealing with any text. Among the larger words are Holmes, Horner, man and goose.

The most notable observation that may be made from this visualization regards Sherlock Holmes’ behavior and the way he goes about his investigations. There are not many action verbs that can be seen in the word cloud. One could have guessed that this would have been the case, because this narrative did not contain large amounts of action and excitement. Instead we see many verbs related to sensory perception.

Among the words that we see more in the median frequencies are “see”, “saw”, “tell”, “think” and most importantly “know.” In addition to this, “see” is around the top ten in word usage for the entire text. This here is key in analyzing not only the text, but Sherlock Holmes himself.  Holmes’ use of sensory perception is key in making him a great detective, and it is widespread according to this visualization. What he is able to see and think will ultimately determine what he is able to know in all of Doyle’s Holmes’ tales.
