Hello, I’m Sam Eisenbaum, a junior at SUNY New Paltz studying Digital Media Production. A key advancement in digitally mapping is exonerated on the Spike show, Deadliest Warrior. In every episode, through extensive research, the scientists choose two of history’s deadliest fighters and pin them against eachother to see who would win in a fight. Weapons are tested, fighting styles are tested and battleground tactics are tested. The battleground mapping allows the scientist to work alongside a historian and digitally recreate battle scenarios, taking in consideration the terrain, the location, the motives, plans and tactics originally implemented to get a better visual understanding of what happened. This digital mapping is useful in discussing a battle commander’s leadership and knowledge of warfare as we can see the paths chosen, the routes taken and the reasons for victory or defeat. Digital mapping is a much larger representation of a scenario than simply words on a page.
