The Overlook is seeking summer interns who are motivated, curious, and enterprising with a passion for journalism to work with them this summer. Interns will gain hands-on experience in reporting, researching, and writing stories. The internship will offer the opportunity to build clips, develop editorial skills, find ways to grow/sustain news nonprofits, and contribute engaging stories.
The intern’s responsibilities will include…
- Pitching, researching, and writing stories on local news, politics, art, and community issues
- Conducting interviews with sources
- Assisting in fact-checking, copyediting, and digital content management
- Conducting deep-research, submitting FOIA requests, helping with development
- Covering live events and public meetings
- Working with The Overlook’s editorial team
The intern’s qualifications must include…
- Strong writing, research, and communication skills
- Interest in local journalism and community reporting
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience with AP style writing
- Photography and multimedia skills
