- In your junior or senior year
- Open to a career in public media
- Passionate about science, health, and economics reporting
Then you are eligible to apply to the Public Media Journalists Association’s (PMJA) Opening Doors Program! The program will provide skills training, mentorship, and paid internships to ten chosen applicants with a focus on science, health, and economics reporting.
Those chosen can expect…
- Intensive leadership training at the PMJA National Conference in Kansas City (travel and hotel expenses covered)
- Mentorship from experienced public media professionals
- A paid 16-week internship at a public radio station
In order to apply, applicants must…
- Upload a 60-second recording answering “Why do you want to be a journalist in public media, and how will Opening Doors help you achieve your goals, especially in covering science, health, and/or economics locally?”
- Give personal background
- Provide academic records
- Have letters of recommendation
- Share a resume and a portfolio
The application to apply is Sunday, March 23, 2025. Applicants will be notified of their selection status in late April 2025.
PMJA is an association representing public media journalists in the U.S. They work to support, empower, and advocate for journalists working in public media, endeavoring to foster high ethical standards in journalism.
