Fall 2025 Editorial Internship at The Overlook! Must have transportation for reporting events

The Overlook is seeking Fall interns who are motivated, curious, and enterprising with a passion for journalism to work with them. Interns will gain hands-on experience in reporting, researching, and writing stories. The internship will offer the opportunity to build clips, develop editorial skills, find ways to grow/sustain news nonprofits, and contribute engaging stories. 

The intern’s responsibilities will include

● Pitch, research, and write stories on local news, arts, politics, and community issues.

● Conduct interviews with sources, including local officials, business owners, and residents.
● Assist in fact-checking, copyediting, and digital content management.
● Conduct deep-research. Submit FOIA requests. Help with development including fundraising,
donor engagement, grant writing, sponsorships, and audience revenue strategies.
● Cover live events and public meetings as needed.
● Work closely with The Overlook’s editorial team, receiving mentorship and feedback

The intern’s qualifications must include…

  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills 
  • Interest in local journalism and community reporting
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Experience with AP style writing 
  • Photography and multimedia skills

  • Location: Woodstock, NY (Hybrid options available). Preference will be given to students who live in Woodstock, Saugerties, Hunter, Hurley, Olive, or Shandaken, or who have a car and can travel to these towns for coverage.
  • Duration:  August/September to December 2025 (Flexible start and end dates)
  • Commitment: 10-15 hours per week PT /// Payment: $17-$20/hr depending on experience
