DMJ Department Hosting “The Pollinators” Film Screening and Q and A on 3/27

Exciting news! Students have an opportunity to watch a special screening of “The Pollinators” on Thursday, March 27th at 6pm in the Coykendall Science Building Auditorium, hosted by the DMJ department and the SUNY New Paltz Foundation. Afterwards, students are open to participate in a Q and A session with the documentary’s makers, Peter Nelson and Sally Roy.

“The Pollinators” is a 2019 documentary that follows the journey of migrant beekeepers and their truckloads of honeybees pollinating produce for the U.S. On this journey, the challenges faced by both the beekeepers and the bees are revealed and uncover the flaws of a chemically dependent agricultural system. With interviews from beekeepers, farmers, scientists, chefs, and studied academics, we can learn about the threats facing honeybees and food security, and what we can do to improve it.

Peter Nelson, director and co-producer of “The Pollinators,” is a veteran director of photography with 25 years in the industry. Nelson has been accredited in Emmy-award winning and Oscar-nominated projects, with credentials at PBS, HBO, National Geographic, Discovery, BBC, and Simon & Schuster. Sally Roy, producer of “The Pollinators” has produced both fiction and non-fiction features in the United States and abroad. She has achieved many credentials working with journalist Bill Moyers as executive producer of ‘Bill Moyers Journal’, ‘Moyers & Company’, and Emmy-award winning ‘Healing and the Mind with Bill Moyers’, as well as many other works.

Not only is this screening a great opportunity for students to learn about the dangers facing our agricultural industry, but also to meet with seasoned documentary directors and producers. There is no reservation needed for this event.

We hope to see you there!
