U.S. Residencies:

Location: Monson, Maine

 

Duration: 2-4 weeks

 

Perks: private studio, private bedroom in shared housing, all meals, and $1,000 stipend ($500 for 2-week residencies). Application for this program is open to anyone at any stage of their career, working in visual arts, writing, and related fields (i.e. audio, video, photography)….Access is available to woodshop and metal shop facilities in nearby buildings for any fabrication needs.

Duration: 9- 12 months

Perks: Generous financial support $26,000 to $50,000), outstanding facilities that include the latest software and digital equipment available, and mentorship.

Photographers who want to experiment with new technologies, digital software, and benefit from long-term funding. If you’re interested in working with new technology, this is the residency for you.

Eyebeam offers four distinct programs: Research, Impact, Student and Project. For their Research residency, they offer over $26,000 for living expenses and $5000 as a material grant. Do you have a big project in mind? Eyebeam’s Impact programs supports projects that last up to five years.

The Artist in Residence program awards fully sponsored residencies to approximately 45 local, national, and international artists each year. Residencies include studio space, chef-prepared meals, comfortable housing, and travel and living stipends. AIRs become part of a dynamic community of artists participating in Headlands’ other programs, allowing for exchange and collaborative relationships to develop within the artist community on campus. Artists selected for this program are at all stages in their careers and work in all media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture.* 

 

Location: Lovell, Maine

Length: 1-2 weeks, late June- late September 

Situated on the eastern shore of Kezar Lake in Lovell, Maine, Hewnoaks offers an extraordinary setting of inspiration and beauty. We encourage applications from emerging and mid-career artists and curators in all disciplines, especially for people with no or little residency experience. Maine artists are given preference, but anyone is welcome to apply. Hewnoaks invites participants for one or two week sessions from late June until late September each year and offers self-catered accommodation in rustic cabins complete with basic kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

Deadline: applications open in October 2019 and close January 10, 2019 for summer 2019

JTHAR is a nonprofit artist residency, which invites 4-6 artists from around the world to create work amidst the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park and connect to the vibrant local artistic community. The residency provides scholarship funds, individual housing for each artist, studio space, a gallery exhibition and runs April – June. There is also a shared art studio. The area is a spectacularly beautiful and quiet environment in which to create. The residency is open to artists worldwide working in all media, including painters, photographers, writers, musicians, etc.

Who should apply:

This opportunity is for artists of color specifically. It would be appropriate for an artist looking for a fully funded package from a respected institution. This residency provides color, and traditional darkrooms, plus funding for living expenses.

Location: Syracuse, New York, USA

Duration: One month

Perks: $5000 stipend, furnished apartment, 24/7 access to facilities, and staff support. Plus, work you create at the residency is published in a special edition of Contact Sheet

Who should apply:

Photographers with a project that can be completed during their one month stay. This residency offers generous support and a vibrant community. Light Work has existed as a non-profit since 1973 and is well known as an important place for the development of photographic practices.

Location: El Rito, New Mexico

Duration: 10-21 days

Fee: $10-$20

Perks: $200 stipend, Accommodations include a small private cabin with solar power and potable water, kitchen and shower access with additional outbuilding workspaces available based upon the needs of the artist. There may be opportunities to host workshops, screenings or artist talks while in-residence

 

International Residencies:

Location: Cēsis, Latvia

Duration: 1-2 months

Entry Fee: None

What You Pay For: Travel, 500€ per month to cover accommodation and studio space

Perks: Stipend to cover travel, accommodation, and production costs. The centre has a black and white darkroom, library, 24/7 access to studio space.

Who should apply?

Photographers interested in visiting Latvia and creating artworks that address important social and environmental issues. The centre holds many events and would be an opportunity for meeting artists in a variety of disciplines.

Location: Burren, Ireland

Duration: Minimum of 4 weeks

Perks: Black and white darkroom, 3D lab, digital lab, library, and 24 /7 access to studio space

Who should apply:

Photographers who are looking to work independently at an academic institution with a conceptual focus. Resident photographers are allowed to attend public lectures and be part of the graduate, faculty and student society while in attendance. Those looking for a unique landscape would also be very gratified by visiting the Burren, an area of Ireland revered for its alien rocky shores and fields.
