Reading Position Opening

One of our SUNY NP Alum just alerted us to 2 Reading Teacher positions in Dover School District. Details are on OLAS. Application is due August 13th.

The Dover Union Free School District anticipates an opening for an elementary remedial reading teacher for a tenure-track position.  Dual certification in special education is preferred.  Certification in Wilson Reading and/or Orton-Gillingham a plus. NYS certification in Literacy is required.  Please submit a cover letter and resume through OLAS.

Application Deadline:  August 13, 2021   Start Date:  September 1, 2021

Monday LED 753/754 is ONLINE synchronous, even though the schedule listes it as hybrid.

Tuesday LED 753/75 IS hybrid and will meet on campus.

Literacy Program On-Line!

Do you know someone who would like Literacy Certification?

They can now earn a Literacy Master’s Degree entirely ONLINE!

ONLINE classes begin on August 23, 2021 

Our classes are offered in flexible formats: 

-Accelerated format – Finish in one year 

-Traditional format – Finish in two or more years 

-SECOND master’s – Up to 12 credits may be transferred

FALL 2021 Registration: We have answers!

Thanks so much for your patience while we worked to find answers for Fall 2021 registration. Here is what you need to know:

  1. If you filled out the Google Form for Fall 2021 already, you will be registered by our department secretary for the courses you indicated on the form. She plans to work on that this afternoon, so hopefully you will be able to see your registered classes soon!
  2. We now need you to fill out this Drop-Add Form to have on file with Records and Reg. Fill out the “ADD” table information with the courses you indicated on the Google form.
  3. This information will help you:
    1. LED 512-01, Children’s and YA LIT, CRN 1341, WED
    2. LED 528-01,  Lit and Lang Learners, CRN 1340, WED
    3. LED 753-02 Workshop in Understanding Literacy Difficulties, CRN 1346, TUES
    4. LED 754-02, Workshop in Diagnosing Literacy Difficulties, CRN 1344, TUES

REGISTRATION UPDATE Fall 2021

Hell again,

We apologize in advance for the registration problems for Fall 2021 because they are not over!

Literacy is working with Records and Reg to figure out how to overcome a problem in the system that is preventing literacy folks from registering.

So, please just hold off on trying to register until you hear from us again.

DO NOT WORRY! You will get in registered for Fall 2021! Everyone will get where they need to be as soon as we figure out a solution (and there is always a solution).

We will post an update as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to e-mail Dr. Hop (hopenwac@newpaltz.edu) if it will make you feel better!

URGENT: Update to Fall 2021 Registration Procedure

PLEASE note the CHANGE in procedure to register for Fall 2021!

Due to new requirements from the university, students must review and agree to the Financial Responsibility Statement before they register.  Click here for more information.

This means that you must register yourself for Fall 2021.

Additionally, you MUST register for the following sections of needed courses. 

  • LED 512 Children’s and YA LIT, CRN 1341, WED
  • LED 528 Lit and Lang Learners, CRN 1340, WED
  • LED 753 Workshop in Understanding Literacy Difficulties, CRN 1346, TUES
  • LED 754 Workshop in Diagnosing Literacy Difficulties, CRN 1344, TUES

Anyone registering for another section of the above courses will be moved into these sections.

TWO Diversity Courses to choose from this summer!

There are now two diversity classes to choose from this summer:

408 EDS537 01 Issues in Multicultural Education WEB 3 6/30-8/3 ONLINE ASYNC Asilia Franklin-Phipps 13
407 EDS549 01 Issues in Literacy for Diverse Learners WEB 3 6/30-8/3 ONLINE ASYNC Ramon Vasquez 20

EDS549 is appropriate for B-6 and 5-12 even though the description says “secondary”. This course does count for BOTH programs as the diversity requirement.

Registration for Summer and Fall 2021

Hello Literacy Leaders! Registration for Summer and Fall 2021 begins on April 12. Please read these directions carefully to help you prepare.

  1. Review your Progress Report on Mynewpaltz.edu to determine what classes you need to take. Reach out to your advisor or to Dr. Hop (Literacy Program Coordinator) with questions.
  2. Summer 2021: You will register yourself for Summer classes. You can see a detailed explanation of courses offered this summer with dates and times HERE.
  3. Fall 2021: Fill out this Google Form  for Fall 2021. After you complete this form, you will be manually registered for Spring 2021. You do not need to take any further action (in other words, you do not need to register on your own through mynewpaltz). Please complete the form by April 9.
