“The pheminists of hip hop represent the science of how to incorporate emotion and desire and stand up for oneself, and protect, represent, and be oneself.”, in a patriarchal society it is hard to be yourself without getting bashed foreign a women (Morgan 148). This quote from the Morgan reading shows how hip hop has allowed women to make a space to represent feminism. Throughout the hip hop history, women MC’s had to work 10x harder to prove their skills and determination to allow them to build a space for other women. Not only is it hard for women but queers also had to pave the way to show the hip hop culture of their existence. Hip hop has been socially constructed of being a straight and male dominated culture. According to Chang, queers have influenced many graffiti art, clothing, language and records (Chang 200). I found this information interesting because I was unaware of the influence other genders had on pop culture. More people need to be aware of hip hop’s industry roots. The  imagine I think people have of hip hop is being male, tough, and aggressive. Throughout these readings I have compared hip hop masculinity to then and now. It is still a patriarchal culture but we have come a long way since hip hop started. For example, in class when we listened to the song Get up 10 by Cardi B she had to knock down the accusations about her life before fame. I follow her instagram and she has mentioned if she raps about real things people won’t listen or buy her music, but when she raps about her stripper life and such she makes thousands off of it. I do think consumers are to be blamed for allowing hip hop to evolve to this type of music. Many women are in the hip hop culture now, but their raps still objectify women, is this better or worse than not having women in the hip hop culture?
