The Last Poets poem “New York, New York” speaks on the racial dynamics of the space of New York City and what it means to be black in this space in time. Forman’s chapter discusses how location informs art and vice versa (global consumption). This poem exposes New York’s liberal and accepting front to show the true experience black people face going about their lives in the city and directly ties to the Forman reading.
