Summary of Tasks

The Social Media Intern – part time (8-15 hours/week) in collaboration with the Director of Programs and Services and Program Specialist—supports the creation, implementation and evaluation of the Center’s presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. The position packages and disseminates textual and visual information about the Center and regional programs and services to LGBTQ persons and families in a creative, catchy, accessible, and professional manner. The Social Media Intern works with a variety of programs to increase the Center’s digital and real-life reach; promotes programs, activities and special events; and is responsible for data collection, entry, and monthly reporting on the Center’s social media presence.

Reporting Relationships

The Social Media Intern reports directly to the Programs staff and works closely with:

· Director of Programs and Services
· Program Specialist
· Volunteers
· Other interns
· Center friends and supporters
· Health care agencies and offices
· Social service agencies
· Local and Regional Businesses

Duties

The specific tasks for the position include:

· Develops copy and graphic content for social media, print and other e-communications;
· Assists in coordination and implementation of all social media posts;
· Oversees the updating of the monthly editorial calendar;
· Posts about outside events that take place at the Center (O+, Pride week activities, dances, panel discussions, etc.) and in other locations;
· Responds to direct messages and other communications from individuals seeking information and/or referrals to service providers;
· Actively works to improve and streamline the Center’s social media strategy;
· Collects, maintains, and analyzes data from the Center’s platforms regarding reach and other metrics;
· Provides feedback regarding internship and contributes to the creation of a sustainable internship program;
· Completes other tasks as assigned by the Programs staff.

 

Qualifications

· A strong commitment to the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center’s mission, values, and goals;
· Familiarity with LGBTQ culture;
· Excellent interpersonal and social media skills;
· Experience in graphic design;
· Excellent time management, organizational, and written and oral communication skills;
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collegial work environment;
· Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Suite (Word and Excel, Publisher, etc.), and Google Suite
· A willingness to learn systems such as Constant Contact, Canva, WordPress, etc.
