Literacy Clinic Digital Tour
Check out a Digital Tour of our literacy center here at SUNY New Paltz. It is posted under our intervention tab, under general resources. Here you can also find an updated Reading Level Correlation Chart and a new Leveling QRI chart! We hope you find these resources helpful!
IMPORTANT: NYS Required Workshop, Health & Safety
Please check your progress report for the Health & Safety Workshop. Students who began their graduate program within or after Summer 2018 are REQUIRED by New York State to have this (and all other state required workshops) on their New Paltz transcripts in order to graduate.
If you do NOT have the Health & Safety Workshop completed, you MUST register for EDI095 in a Fall or Spring semester. (This is NOT offered in winter or summer.) This is 0-credit online “course” that you must complete to satisfy the state requirement.
Again, candidates who do not have this completed and on their NP record will NOT be able to graduate.
Summer 19 Diversity Electives – New Sections
Those in need of a Diversity Elective course this summer:
Additional sections of EDS537 Issues in Multicultural Education and EDS549 Issues in Literacy for Diverse Learners are being added to the Summer 19 schedule. Please check my.newpaltz periodically throughout the week to register for either of these courses.
P.S. Thank you to those who responded to the GoogleForm; your attention to this helped to get additional sections added.
Provisional Acceptance – Approaching Deadlines
If you were accepted to the Literacy program provisionally,
you may have a deadline coming up!
Reminder: Candidates accepted pending GRE scores must submit these scores by the midpoint of the first semester of graduate study.
- If this applies to you and you HAVE taken the GRE, you do not need to do anything. Your scores should arrive within 30 days of taking the test if you selected SUNY New Paltz as the recipient of your scores when you took the test. (If you did not select SUNY New Paltz as the recipient of your scores, please use the information on this website to ensure your official scores are submitted to the Office of Graduate and Extended Learning.)
- If this applies to you and you have NOT taken the GRE, please email literacy@newpaltz.edu with the date you are taking the GRE.
Future Deadline for Provisionally Accepted Candidates
Reminder: Candidates accepted pending New York State teaching certification must submit proof of certification by the end of the first full semester (Fall/Spring) of graduate study.
- If this applies to you and you HAVE been granted your NYS teaching certification, you must send proof to recreg@newpaltz.edu no later than May 21st. (Proof of certification can be a screenshot of your TEACH account or a hard copy/picture of your certification document from NYSED with your full name clearly visible.)
- If this applies to you and you have NOT been granted your NYS teaching certification yet, please be aware of this upcoming deadline!
New Lit. Candidate Orientation Location
The orientation & advising sessions for newly admitted Literacy candidates will take place in the Literacy Center (OMB102).
This is in the basement of Old Main near the vending machines and Center for Student Success.
Wed. 2/27 4:30-5:30
OR
Thurs. 3/7 4:30-5:30
If you have not already registered, please do so using this GoogleForm. Prior to this session, please consider whether you would like to enroll as a full time graduate student (4 courses, 12 credits) or part time graduate student (2 courses, 6 credits) per Fall and Spring semesters. Candidates seeking to complete the accelerated program will be required to take courses in at least one summer term.
The Literacy Team is eager to welcome you all! 😀
New to the Literacy Program? Please Attend an Orientation & Advising Session!
If you were recently accepted to the SUNY New Paltz Literacy program, welcome! 🙂
Your first step is to receive an orientation to the program and develop your Plan of Study. The Literacy team is offering two options within the next two weeks:
Wed. 2/27 4:30-5:30pm
Thurs. 3/7 4:30-5:30pm
Please respond to the GoogleForm here to register for one of these two sessions or to confirm that you will schedule a meeting with your advisor for orientation and advising.
Note: In order to be guaranteed the courses and schedule you desire, you must have a Plan of Study on file and pay $100 deposit by Mon. March 11th. Please make an effort to attend one of the group orientation and advising sessions provided as scheduling an individual session with an advisor may result in missing this deadline.
Looking for a career in education?
Making summer plans? Please review your Plan of Study!
If you are already looking forward to summer (and who isn’t this week), please take note of the following:
EED752 Theoretical Foundations of Reading and Writing (“Theoretical”) will be completely online and will run May 22nd – July 19th .
EED759 Workshop in Action Research for Literacy Leaders (“Action Research”) will be completely online and will run May 22nd – June 29th.
EED757/758 Clinical Practices in Literacy (“Clinic”) will occur Mon. – Thurs., July 8th – August 2nd. You will take either the AM session (8:30-11:30) OR the PM session (1:30-4:30). Attendance at all clinic sessions is required as this course contributes to the practicum hours required by NYS for Literacy Specialist certification.
