Data Literacy Workshop with Josh Korenblat, Thursday, November 18, 2:00 —3:30 pm via WebEx

In this presentation and workshop, I’ll share reasons why we all need to understand data storytelling and the importance of data literacy in courses, even if it’s not the primary subject in them. To illustrate how data is fundamental to knowledge and wisdom, we’ll look at the data-information-knowledge-wisdom pyramid, and how we can use this as a tool to spark discussion about data literacy. We’ll proceed to have an interactive book club by examining charts from Alberto Cairo’s book How Charts Lie. This covers the principles of reading data well. I’ll also introduce Learning to See Data, which covers the principles of seeing data.  The end of the workshop would be a discussion and brainstorm about ways we can integrate data literacy in our courses.

Date: Thurs. Nov. 18
