Birth control pills are harmful to college students

Introduction:

Birth control pills are the pills that avoid pregnancy in women. This contraceptive device is easy to use and easily accessible. Since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved “the pill” in 1960, it has become the most popular and one of the most effective forms of reversible birth control ever invented (“Birth Control Pills”). That’s why a lot of college students use this as a means of protection from unwanted pregnancy. Is this the safest option out there for teenagers? What are the birth control pills on a young teenager’s body? There are three kinds of birth control pills which are combination pills, Progestin-Only Pills (POP), and Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECP) (“ Birth Control Pills”).

–  Excessive use of birth control pills among college students
–  The unawareness of birth control pills and their effects on a young body.
–  The use of birth control pills can have a long-term effect on our bodies as it has to do something with hormonal changes.

 –  The use of birth pills and intake varies from pill to pill. The most common one is a 30-day pill.

Effects of birth control pills on a young body:

  • They do not prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) like AIDS and HPV.
  • Decreases menstruation blood & discharge
  •  It causes nausea, vomiting, and headache when used for the first time.
  • Weight gain or loss

How do birth control pills work in a woman’s body?

  •   Hormones in a woman’s body create and release eggs into the ovary but the pills prevent the release of eggs into the ovary. This action helps to prevent pregnancy in women
  • All contraceptive pills contain some amount of human-made estrogen and progestin.

What are the other contraceptives that can replace pills?

  •   Use of other contraceptives like male and female condoms instead of birthcontrol pills.
  •  Female condom & male condoms are one of the safest products which prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

The reason why I want to research this topic:

  • I have always been aware of the different physical and mental effects of birth control pills on our bodies, but the statistics show that people prefer using birth control pills.
  • I want to research other contraceptive devices that can be used instead of birth control pills.
