Effie Seremitis, Arts Education Major
Interviewed by Becca Brewer, Visual Arts Major

Effie is a transfer junior student here at New Paltz. Effie is majoring in art education.

Two pivotal moments from Effie’s childhood were when she first transferred from a public school in 4th grade, to a private arts school. The change was major; however, she eventually found her footing at this new school. Another example was when she started martial arts at a young age. Both things helped her figure herself out, as well as provide much-needed structure that helped her become the person she is today.

Effie aspires to be a kind person, not only to herself but to her friends and the people around her. At her old college, the majority of the student body were not kind, she realized this unkindness was slowly affecting her. Now, at New Paltz, she has decided to continue growing her kindness and being a good friend to herself. She also plans on going into art education, so she wants to become a good teacher that can help children find the structure and importance of art much like she did as a child at her art school.

Two challenges she is facing currently is managing and working with her anxiety. It is constantly a part of her life, and she is currently finding ways to navigate and find herself in a new college. She also wants to connect more with her family. Due to the whirlwind of college and navigating adulthood, she feels as though she has lost connection with her family.
