Ashley Wickwire, Visual Arts Major
Interviewed by Malcolm Zimmerman, Visual Arts Major
Ashley is a sophomore commuting from Wappingers. She described her upbringing among four siblings and “lots” of dogs as normal, but it has clearly fueled her motivations to put a foot in the door of the art world. She began drawing and painting when she was only three and currently strives to find any work which can be used as a creative outlet, such as screenwriting or graphic design. Ashley gravitates towards themes of surrealism and storytelling through her personal work. Her decision to study the arts at New Paltz served as a turning point in her life, from which she hopes to network through the art world.
Ashley acknowledges that she is very hard on herself with regard to her work, aiming for perfection before calling anything done. As a result, she feels that she misses out on things, holding herself back from the next painting, drawing, or school project.
