On Tuesday, April 2 at 5pm in LC 108, the Asian Studies Program and the Department of Performing Arts are presenting a wonderful event to celebrate the inauguration of the Asian American Studies minor at SUNY New Paltz. Phil Chan is a speaker, dancer, author, and activist who strives to amend the stereotypical misrepresentation of East Asian people and culture in theater performances, such as the Chinese Tea scene in “The Nutcracker.” Here is a New York Times article about him. His lecture on April 2 is titled “The Opposite of Cancel Culture.” More information is in the flyer below.

Phil Chan has kindly agreed to meet with students in advance of his lecture. That will take place at 3:30 in the Honors Center. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about the world of theater performance, his activities, and more.
