To Whom It May Concern,

Before this course, my initial thoughts about my writing were that it was good and up to par against many of the requirements that earlier professors/teachers asked me. My peers, family, and friends would also frequently give me good feedback about my writing regarding assignments and other tasks.

What I have learned from one paper in this class is the organization of my main points throughout my body paragraphs. A strategy that I have learned from this class is how to incorporate the use of ethos, pathos, and logos. Having acquired the knowledge that an argument is only strong using these three literary elements has been useful in my other classes when having a debate about a specific topic or even in a back-and-forth discussion with another peer about a specific topic. The skills I had to use while writing my rough draft for my final paper as well as for any other major paper in the course will be effective in future studies in my career because I am now able to break down what is asked of me in a writing assignment and can dissect the prompt and be able to later structure my writing based off that dissection. The process of having an MLA heading changed the way I think about college assignments, now I must remember that I must have my writing structured in a certain way, and if not then I will lose points for something so slight and insignificant.

Something I’ve learned about the writing process is that brainstorming and outlining any writing you have is very important and crucial for the outcome of your writing. Being able to brainstorm ideas for a big assignment helps because I am the type of student that remembers things that I see and often do not hear so for me getting ideas down on a paper is helpful to remember certain ideas. Outlining helps me with my writing because then I can structure everything that I know I need to include in my assignment, and I can put everything together and see what it would look like together so then editing and making changes is a lot easier.

What I would consider my strengths in writing to be my language use, tone, and word choice. I feel as though I have a very expanded vocabulary as of right now and can use it to convey my points differently. To add I feel when it comes to supporting evidence and using it to convey my point I generally excel because I think I can make even the slightest bit of evidence useful to my point whether it be a word to a sentence.

Upon completion of this course, I feel slightly more prepared regarding college writing expectations but at the same time, I also feel still unprepared because, at the end of the day, I feel it is the college professor who is supposed to convey the material in a way that students of capable of learning so at the end of the day the decision of me comprehending material falls onto the professor which is most definitely how it should not be. When it comes to my attitude toward writing in essence it has changed that is because of who I have been learning from as well as my own determination to learn. My attitude towards writing is still negative seeing as how I still dislike writing papers based on prompts where there is no freedom of creativity for me in the process, but I do still have hope that through further education in writing, I can come to love writing the way I believe I could.

Sincerely,

Simon O. Keene
