Dec. 11th: Wrapping it up!

Last class was used to wrap up our podcast assignments. We started the class by outlining what our goals were for the remainder of our projects. One of the points that Professor Sawyer touched upon was the power of a picture to say what words sometimes can’t. We used the example she provided to spring a discussion on the best ways to use language to paint a picture in somebody’s mind. Making the point that there is a difference between writing something to be read, and writing something to be spoken. She provided an example “This I Believe” podcast entitled Always go to the Funeral. As we listened we highlighted parts of the podcast that created an image in our mind or felt relatable on a personal level. From there we discussed the sample podcast in groups and eventually as a class. This lesson gave us another example of how important it is to engage our audience. The remainder of class was spent refining our podcasts and talking about possible pictures we could add to make them more appealing. The DASH lab has definitely been a refreshing experience.Whether it was writing, reviewing, or recording everyone seemed locked into their work and excited to finish up the semester.
