The new ADA Title II guidelines went into effect in 2024, but we have until April 24, 2026 to comply with the updates.
The good news, though, is that accessibility isn’t new to New Paltz! We have had an active accessibility committee since 2018 and have made strides in compliance in a variety of important areas. This includes improving the accessibility of our main campus website and library website, and developing a procurement process to ensure accessible technology is acquired. Additionally, since 2022, we have had 225 faculty members who teach online courses complete the Foundational Certification Training, which includes a module on digital accessibility. Faculty training, along with the accessibility checking tool, Ally, has helped many of our Brightspace courses become highly accessible.
While we are proud of all of these achievements, we know there is still more work to do to be fully compliant
While we are proud of all of these achievements, we know there is still more work to do to be fully compliant. To meet the 2026 deadline, many different departments have been working on compliance, and the Office of Instructional Technology will offer training sessions for faculty, staff, and students. Stay tuned to find out which trainings will be most useful for you!
