As the area’s premier impact organization, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region serves as a catalyst to increase the community’s capacity to improve the lives of its citizens. Our aim is to support nonprofits in our region through investing in social change, recruiting and managing volunteers and providing economically disadvantaged individuals with basic necessities, material goods and professional training. We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community. We pride ourselves in having a culture in which staff, interns and volunteers can voice their ideas.

United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region launched a regional volunteer center in 2013. Since doing so, we have engaged thousands of volunteers in hundreds of opportunities resulting in regional nonprofit capacity building. The Financial Empowerment VISTA will have the opportunity to expand this vital community program. In addition, the Financial Empowerment VISTA will support the CASH Coalition, a free volunteer tax service. The coalition is responsible for completing thousands of tax returns and making a regional economic impact in the millions. The Financial Empowerment VISTA will bring the CASH program to underserved communities and expand financial literacy awareness. Will you join us in our fight against poverty?

Member Duties: The Financial Empowerment VISTA will support community programs that provide tax preparation (e.g. CASH Coalition) and financial education: evaluate the effectiveness of those programs, implement strategies that leverage volunteers to strengthen those programs, plan and execute two episodic volunteer events that create a greater awareness in the community about the struggles of people living in poverty, and help build the capacity of the Gifts In Kind program to better serve the needs of economically disadvantaged individuals.
