Final Scratch Project

For my scratch based lesson plan, I created a lesson called “Identity Revealed by Living Spaces.” In this project students will develop a point and click room exploration game, based off of their bedrooms or other living spaces, that reveal aspects of who they are. They will first take pictures of their rooms and draw them using perspective concepts. Then those will be uploaded into either photoshop, if they would like to edit them digitally, or directly into scratch to be used as backgrounds and sprites for their games. I figured this project was a great way for students to work on both their perspective building and scratch game construction skills, as well as explore how they express themselves with the things they keep around them. This project would also be a great way to break the ice between students while they bond over playing each others games and finding common interests.

I think this lesson would definitely span over at least two weeks to give time to both draw each aspect of the project and develop the game. It took me a good chunk of time doing both, and there ended up being a lot of scripts for each sprite to code in the end. I’m really happy with how this game turned out- though the pixelation of it full screen is a little disappointing. Still looks good small screened. There was a ton of other things I wanted to put into this but just ended up running out of time.

  1. Woah! This was super captivating and fun to play. I am really impressed with the amount of components that you included, and the personal aspects really give it a fun touch. I can tell that you put a lot of time into this. Im only wondering, what age group would this lesson plan be given to?

    • Thank you! It’s definitely a high school level lesson. I think it’d probably be too complex for any lower grade levels.

  2. This is soo great it reminds me of games I used to play when I was little!!! The drawings are really beautiful and clear and I think this makes for a really great lesson plan/project

    • Thanks! Yeah it was giving me major nancy drew vibes while I was making it. I originally had the cursor as a magnifying glass too but then there were some glitchy issues with it.

  3. WOw! I love how much effort went into this (and literally every project you do). It’s so beautiful and engaging, sound effects are really fun and its a great project for high schoolers to explore and share their identify and likes with the class. super coooool.

  4. This is an amazing game, and the level of detail is crazy. When I found the computer I was almost expecting to be able to play Stardew Valley.

  5. I absolutely love this game. It’s really clear that you were very passionate about making this game. I am obsessed with the cuteness of the tarot cards and the computer game sections.

  6. I really love how you are incorporating and bringing in the students personal and individual identity. This will help to get to know their interests and them in general.
