My Games

One of the first Positive Play Lab efforts was to create a tabletop game together. The result was Snow Mercy!, a snowball-fight themed card game, a version of which is available free in print-and-play format on BoardGameGeek at the link above.

Currently, I have a couple of other analog games in progress, including Platypus Power where players try to locate animals who share some of the features of platypuses, and a print-and-play midway-themed dice game called Carnival 9.

Student Games

For their final project, students in my Fundamentals of Game Design course create their own games from scratch. During the Spring 2020 semester, as we navigated the early Covid 19 pandemic and finished our class remotely, student teams each designed a print-and-play game with only 9 cards (which can be printed and cut from a single sheet), a rulebook, and some common game pieces such as six-sided dice and tokens. Here are a sample of short games you can download, print, and play in a matter of minutes:

  • Ghost Hunter (Designer: Nicholas Beardslee) – it’s ghost versus ghost hunter in this two-player haunted mansion game.
  • Prison Break (Designer: Michael Considine) – can you escape from prison before you are caught? A single player game.
  • Treasure of the Crypts (Designer: John Rohan) – two players attempt to be the one to grab the most treasure and escape the crypts before they collapse.
