Meaningful Making: Projects and Inspirations for FabLabs and Makerspaces, Chapter 10

Reflection: “Watching Children Learn”

I picked this chapter because I think as (future) educators we often are so focused on our lesson plans and what we are going to say that we forget to set aside moments to observe children making their own discoveries. The beauty of being a teacher is being part of a community or school where we can all learn from each other. In this case, teachers are learning from students while students learn from their peers and through their own actions. Through watching students, we can notice and keep track of their interests as well as their strengths and weaknesses during their creative processes. Documenting or recording moments of discovery can be used to inspire others (current/future students and faculty) and drive potential future projects/activities and/or class discussions.
