Throughout this section, we have analyzed and explored the dynamic and influence feminism has with hip hop and vice versa. While reading The Crunk Feminist Collective “Hip Hop Generation Feminism: Feminism All the Way Turned Up” one quote stood out to me that embodies the relationship between hip hop and feminism. In the introduction the authors stated “Hip hop reshapes the terrain of black feminism, making it responsive to the political and cultural realities of women and girls born in the late twentieth century. And black feminism reshapes the landscape of hip-hop, pushing it to realize and elevate its political promise and possibility.” Hip hop originated as a form of expression for black and brown bodies facing oppression. On the contrary to what some  might believe women are not excluded from this oppression, especially black and brown women. Throughout this section I’ve learned that hip hop acts as a means for different aspects of feminism to be acknowledged.

The reading also points out the hesitancy of black feminists or women in general to claim themselves as mainstream feminists. Most women of color feel that mainstream feminism does not stand for their struggles. Mainstream feminism is thought to only advocate for upper/middle class white women.Black feminism or hip hop feminism creates a space where women of color can advocate for themselves without “selling out” their race. This idea of feminism that sets itself apart from mainstream feminism is also alive in the graffiti culture. Many graffiti girlz believe in and participate in “feminists” actions and ideals however, will never claim to be feminists. This does not mean that they do not advocate for women or create spaces for women to prosper. On the contrary, they have established a different perspective of feminism that does not limit them but is inclusive of their kind of oppression.
