Mid-Career Faculty Committee – Interest “Form”

by

Are you a mid-career faculty member who has ideas for how to better support the needs of your fellow members of faculty? If so, let us know! We are gauging interest for a Mid-Career Faculty Committee. The group would have connections to the Faculty Development Center and Academic Affairs to communicate and/or act on ideas when possible. For this group, “mid-career” is defined as:
  • Tenured faculty, typically at the Associate Professor level
  • Lecturers who have been teaching at New Paltz for 7+ years.
While these definitions leave the years and experience level very broad, this means you can decide for yourself if you fit and are interested. Our goal is to create a (most likely virtual) space where faculty can:
  • Meet monthly (informal, drop-in meetings)
  • Share and discuss questions, challenges, and opportunities that come with this stage of academic careers
  • Potentially serve as a unified voice to Academic Affairs on issues that particularly affect mid-career faculty
The focus of the meetings can be decided as a group, but some ideas to consider are: professional development, career trajectory, work-life balance, promotion/leadership opportunities, and questions about issues at SUNY New Paltz.
If you are interested in being part of this group or receiving updates, please email Matt Newcomb (newcombm@newpaltz.edu) by Friday, October 17. If you are also interested in taking on a leadership role and assisting with the scheduling of meetings or sending out messages, feel free to let us know! This will be an opt-in committee.
