The Faculty Development Center is starting a campus-wide AI Community of Practice! Join your fellow members of faculty to discuss AI and assignments. This group will focus on how AI might change your assignments and assessment, be included in assignments, be resisted in assignments, and affect lessons going with those assignments. The goal is to be practical about what changes are and are not working for people as they adjust their teaching.
The group is explicitly open to those wanting to avoid all AI use by their students and to those wanting to allow/encourage use with various parameters (so, yes, we will disagree with each other some, and that’s okay). We don’t promise to have all the answers, but we can learn from each other on AI usage prevention, identification, and implementation tips. Material will be borrowed from the SUNY-wide AI communities of practice to get our conversations started.
Meetings are all virtual on Webex and will be monthly (likely the last week of each month) on Tuesdays at 11:30 am and/or Wednesdays at 9:00 am. Please click to register and select a preferred time. We will run the same session on Tuesdays and Wednesdays if enough people sign up. Please register by 5 pm, Friday, October 24 (but we’ll take people later if you can make it).
The group is for the remainder of fall and spring semesters. Contact Matt Newcomb at newcombm@newpaltz.edu with questions.
