The AI Inquiry Group will hold its first meeting of the semester on September 15 at 9:30 AM on the theme “AI & Our Students.” Recent surveys show that nearly 90% of students now use AI in some way for their coursework, yet most faculty underestimate how widespread and complex this use has become.
Bring along your favorite cup of coffee or tea—we will provide the lively discussion and bagels! Attendance via Webex will also be available (see link below).
And if you have the opportunity, please take a look at these articles:
- Annette Vee, writing for the Norton Newsletter: “How Are Students Using AI?”.
- College Students Have Already Changed Forever by Ian Bogost Bogost argues that college students have fully integrated generative AI into their academic lives, making it as common as social media and fundamentally reshaping higher education. While many students view AI as a practical tool to save time and manage overwhelming workloads, professors struggle to respond, some relying on handwritten exams or moral appeals, though students increasingly want more authentic, project-based learning. The piece concludes that AI has transformed college more rapidly than the pandemic did. (The Atlantic; Aug. 17, 2025)
