The sudden appearance of ChatGPT and other forms of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has made many of us in higher education rethink what we are doing. Most of us probably feel varying mixtures of dread, curiosity, and excitement about AI. Many of us are talking about it in our departments and in informal groups that have formed on campus.
On Wednesday, February 18th, 9am-1pm, in the SUB Ballroom, SUNY New Paltz will be holding an AI Forum for us to come together as a body to discuss our views and responses to AI at SUNY New Paltz. The goal of this event will be to share views so that all of us gain a better understanding, not a debate or an attempt to persuade each other that one view is correct. All faculty, staff, and administrators are welcome to participate and attend. Lunch will be provided for this event.
Actions:
- You can RSVP here to attend (and have lunch).
- If you would like to help provide context for the discussion by giving a brief presentation on your thoughts, use, and policies about AI in your teaching, please fill out this form by January 15, 2026. We will use answers to these questions to select speakers who represent a diversity of viewpoints and disciplines.
We hope you will join us and help to make this a meaningful event that will support all of us in our common task of educating our students at SUNY New Paltz.
