Two New Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) Programs! Sign up today for Spring 2026

This year, in an effort to invest in its faculty and their continued growth and thought with pedagogical practices, SUNY New Paltz is offering two new Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) programs! These programs are open to full and part time faculty, and all are encouraged to try it no matter where they are in their career.

Both programs are being fully funded by the Provost’s Office and the Carnegie Corporation of New York grant. Participation in either program will also make you fully eligible to receive DSI for the 2026 year, but spots in each program are limited. Initial sign-up period ended December 15, 2025, but we have a few slots still available. Sign-up ends January 22, 2026.

Effective Teaching Practices

The Effective Teaching Practices certificate is an evidence-based professional development that provides faculty with high-impact teaching strategies proven to improve student outcomes. The weekly commitment for this nationally recognized effective college teaching certificate program is approximately three hours. To earn this certificate, each week, faculty will watch a video on an evidence-based teaching practice, implement it in their classroom, and then reflect on the implementation. This program is open to all full and part time faculty.

All faculty will work in a cohort of approximately 30 participants. There will also be opportunities to meet and discuss your experiences with your fellow cohort members.

The Effective Teaching Practices program will run throughout Spring 2026, break for Summer 2026, and then reconvene for Fall 2026.

Evidence of Impact

A 2022 meta-analysis across eight institutions found an average 3 percentage point reduction in DFW rates in courses taught by ACUE-certified faculty.
At the University of Southern Mississippi, students in gateway courses taught by ACUE faculty had higher success rates in subsequent courses and were 4 percentage points more likely to return the following year (70% vs. 66%).
Completion of the program earns a nationally recognized certificate in Effective College Instruction, endorsed by the American Council on Education

Deliberative Dialogue

The Deliberative Dialogue program, in accordance with the Civil Discourse GE, helps faculty model and teach respectful, open, and intellectually grounded dialogue – supporting our goal to foster civil discourse among students, faculty, and staff. Each participant will watch five, one-hour asynchronous videos individually and then meet with their cohort to discuss and reflect upon the modules.

The Deliberative Dialogue program is self-paced throughout Spring 2026. It is open to all faculty and staff.
