This hands-on workshop introduces a practical prompt template aligned with Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels to help educators generate meaningful, flexible writing assignments using AI. You’ll learn how to scaffold prompts for different DOK levels, and adapt assignments for various content types and learning environments.

Workshop Outline

Workshop Length: 30–45 minutes

Audience: Faculty and instructional staff (beginner to intermediate AI users)

Format: Interactive (demo + hands-on practice + discussion)

Preparation: Bring a content item (e.g., your syllabus, article, case study, or lecture slides in document format)

Step-by-Step Prompting Process:

  • Select academic discipline and course context
  • Choose content type (e.g., article excerpt, case study, lecture slides)
  • Determine DOK level (1–4) for the assignment
  • Student choice in response formats (e.g., summary, analysis, argument)
  • Inclusive and accessible language
  • Refine prompt for clarity and alignment with learning goals
