Open Access Lunch and Learn: Open Access Book Publishing: An Introduction with SUNY Press
Wednesday, October 26, 2022 – 12:00pm

Watch party to be held in the Faculty Development Center (FDC) with Stephan Macaluso, Librarian and OER Lead: Light refreshments available

Open Access (OA) publishing makes digital versions of academic information, like journal articles and data, freely available to readers online. As OA expands its reach further into the world of book publishing, many faculty find themselves with questions about what publishing OA would – or would not – mean for their scholarly work.

This conversation will provide an introduction to the basics of OA in book publishing, including the motivations behind this publishing model and the advantages/limitations of the various licenses used for OA work. The conversation will address common misconceptions about peer review, books sales, and the use of university repositories. It will also describe the recent growth of the OA program at SUNY Press, and briefly explore our hopes for the future.

Presenter: Amanda Baker is the Director of Marketing and OA/OER Publishing Strategy at the State University of New York Press.
