For my final project I’m creating a three layer acrylic light. I really enjoyed using illustrator and
working with the digital fabrication lab for my lantern and wanted to expand the way I can use those resources. The theme of the project is “light” both literally and metaphorically. It’s important for students to have the opportunity to explore broad concepts and think abstractly in order to understand things concretely. I also am excited for the variety of subjects students explore and the conversations that emerge between students because of this prompt. School is a great place for students to examine parts of the world that can sometimes be overlooked and share with/learn from their peers.
Artistically this project will allow students to learn about layers, materials, illustrator,
negative space, and lighting. The project is fairly open-ended stylistically which is important because of the many design and function restrictions. This project will also have a solid combination of digital and physical creating which can engage and challenge everyone. Students will be pushed to think about their work in a thoughtful and conceptual way and create with intent. However, students will be able to create work that is personal and interesting to them. Overall I think this project will produce great artwork from students conceptually and visually. I’m excited to see how my teacher example turns out!

all and all this would be the coolest project to do in high school. I know its complicated and would probably require a lot of passion from the students but honestly with the potential results of it, all the possibilies, who wouldnt be jazzed to do it. Its a great prompt that students can feel is important to them, and make relevent to themselves, deepening their involvment with the project.

This project is impressive to me on so many different levels. First of all I love that you were able to make a whole lesson plan based off of light and it’s different meanings. I also really love how advanced this project is. You have so many elements to this that are all really beautiful and thoughtful and I am so excited to see how this turns out!

Such a beautiful concept, I can tell that you put so much work and thought into this and it really paid off because the outcome in progress is already so gorgeous. This lesson is something that I wish I could’ve done in high school so I can only imagine how beneficial this would be for the students and how excited they would be to be able to make this while talking about the underlying meaningful big idea. really great job, i love the way you thought about this

I love your concept and how you are giving students a prompt to think about light in a “new” way. Giving students an opportunity to take part in a lesson like this can push their creativity and like you said, you can end up with a variety of amazing ideas that you couldn’t even imagine. Your lesson has so many facets, it is really beautiful. You worked really hard and you can tell you put your all into it by looking at the work and by hearing the way you talk about it.

All I can say, and was thinking during your demo display, is wow! You took adobe illustrator to another level compared to our previous laser cutting projects. I find this glass and its engraving quite beautiful. I as a student would absolutely love this project. It was an ambitious idea to add in all those LED lights on the bottom holder and I give you props to try even if it didn’t work. Your alligned of all the LEDs was quite impressive and I would love to see this final project all lit up. I think it’s a great way to learn about layers, especially when I was confused about how they worked in photoshop until just this year. I have to say all your projects were very impressive and I love your art style.
