In Eng 170, I learned many writing techniques. Professor Clasby was informative and very helpful when it came to any assignment, therefore I learned how to write better. In the compositional analysis, I learned how to write an analysis of my argument more thoroughly, so I used this new skill for my contextual analysis. The papers are related, so the compositional analysis sort of set me up for the contextual analysis. The primary takeaway from this class is to never be afraid to ask a professor for help in a paper. Also, I learned how to make an argument better. Unfortunately, time in actual class was cut short because of Covid-19, so I bet we would have done more in class if we were still at school. Being home though, I do wish we maybe could have studied a piece of art and written a short paper on the emotions it gave us… maybe? Professor Clasby knows things about visual arts, so I feel like that could have been an assignment.
Some examples of my knowledge in writing include bold thesis statements, strong arguments, and finding good sources to include in my writing. Based on the contextual analysis, my view on how to approach a paper changed. I now know how to research more thoroughly to come up with a stronger argument. Aspects of my major assignments in this class I feel most successful about are the clarity of my introductions, and my strong analysis in my contextual analysis. I am also proud of my research for the contextual because I found really good sources. I am now a more advanced critical thinker and image detective(students in this class are called this because we studied images).
