Hi, my name is Danica Childs. I’m a freshman at SUNY New Paltz and I want to major in Sociology possibly with a concentration in human services. I also hope to have a minor in French and do study abroad in France in my sophomore year. After college I have thought about going to law school or just going to graduate school. I’m not officially sure what career I want to do but I know I want to work in either human services or in the criminal justice field possibly working with at-risk youth. My main goal for whatever career path I follow is to help others in any way possible.

The theme of this course was focusing on objects and their impact in cultures, the history and meaning behind them. When I was working with a group we focused mainly on transportation as a broad subject and then narrowed it down to locomotives and train systems. We researched the history of trains and locomotives, what powered them, what train cars were like, what trains were used for and also the evolution of train safety. On my own I thoroughly researched the evolution of playing cards to tarot cards and the impact of tarot cards in American culture. My research brought me down a fascinating path on the history of tarot cards starting with their invention in Italy and their migration to America.
