Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students and Alumni with Disabilities

Are you a SUNY New Paltz student or recent alum with a disability? Are you interested in working for the federal government?

If so, the Disability Resource Center and the Career Resource Center want you to be aware of an amazing opportunity!

What is the Workforce Recruitment Program?

The Workforce Recruitment Program connects federal employers with college students, graduate students, and recent graduates with disabilities for internships and permanent jobs. Coordinated by the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense, this highly competitive program offers positions in various federal agencies like the Social Security Administration, NASA, and the Department of Education. Applications for Fall 2024 may lead to opportunities in Winter/Spring 2025.

Who Can Apply?

Students and recent graduates can apply to WRP if they:

  • have a disability and are eligible under the Schedule A hiring authority (includes most documented disabilities). You will not be asked to disclose the name of or details about your disability.
  • are a U.S. citizen or national (residents of American Samoa and Swains Island)
  • are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program on a substantially full-time basis OR have graduated with a degree on or after April 1, 2022 (for 2024-2025 applications).

What does the participating in the program require?

Applicants must meet with a career specialist (in-person or virtually) at the Career Resource Center several times in the Fall to develop a resume, cover letter, and interview skills. They must also complete a virtual informational interview with a federal employee. This program best suits committed, enthusiastic, and motivated candidates willing to invest time in the application process.

While there are federal jobs across the country, there are very few opportunities in the Hudson Valley and very few remote positions.  Willingness to relocate to another city may improve chances of being considered for a position.

Applications for 2024-2025 are now closed.  Please stay tuned to this page in August 2025 for information on the 2025-2026 program.
