See below for information on how you might participate in this year’s Asian Studies Mid-Autumn Festival and the ISU’s Multicultural Performance. A small group of Japanese students on campus will perform a traditional dance and they are looking to recruit more members. There is no experience needed, but you would need to commit to three practices plus a performance. Contact Aya Kikuta (information below) directly if you are interested. It’s a wonderful opportunity!

Hi everyone. My name is
Aya. I am from Japan and study International Relations at New
Paltz. Other five Japanese students and I are planning to practice
Soran
Bushi
(Japanese traditional Fishermen’s dance) and have several performances during this semester.
So far, we will perform at:
Wednesday, October 23 Asian Studies department, mid-autumn festival
Wednesday, November 20 International Student Union, Multicultural Festival
We are currently looking for fifteen students who are interested in joining us! No experience required because most of the Japanese kids learn before 4th grade. Here is the only requirement we ask. Since practice is really important, we would like to invite students who can join the practice.
Wednesday, October 2 5pm-6pm
Friday, October 4 4pm-5pm
Monday, October 7 5pm-6pm
Wednesday, October 9 5pm-6pm
Wednesday, October 16 5pm-6pm
Friday, October 18 4pm-5pm
Monday, October 21 (Mandatory rehearsal, time not confirmed)
As long as you can make THREE of them (not including the last rehearsal), you are good to go! Of course, you can attend as much as you want.
This is the dance we will practice! Hope you can get some sense from this video. This opportunity is open for anyone who likes experiencing Japanese culture and having fun! If you have some questions or are interested in joining us, please contact me. My email is kikutaa1@hawkmail.newpaltz.edu
